Le nouveau point de ralliement festif parisien à taille humaine imaginé par les têtes pensantes du club Concrete, et programmé par son ex directeur artistique Brice Coudert en binôme avec Antoine Hernandez (co-programmateur du festival Positive Education).

Après avoir changé la trajectoire des musiques électroniques en France dans les années 2010 en créant l’institution Concrete, et en inspirant pendant près d’une décennie une génération de clubbers, d’artistes et de promoteurs, son directeur technique et de production Jonathan Malaisé ainsi que son fondateur et directeur artistique Brice Coudert, s’associent à David Bossan et Tommy Gin pour donner naissance à Essaim, nouveau lieu de fête et de culture dédié aux musiques modernes, et pensé pour devenir le nouveau QG d’une scène aux goûts musicaux affutés et d’un public puriste et curieux.

C’est en plein centre de Paris (dans l’enceinte des ex Club Carbone et Bisou Club), à mi-chemin entre Gare du Nord et Gare de l’Est, mais à l’abri des grands axes et d’un public de passage, que l’équipe déterminée et passionnée derrière ce nouveau projet est en train de définir et construire point par point, un nouvel espace dont la taille humaine (400 personnes) va leur permettre de pousser la qualité de l’expérience à un niveau rarement atteint à Paris.

Une programmation incarnée
Afin de garder un ADN musical défini par une direction artistique assumée et dépourvue de compromis, Essaim proposera une programmation signée exclusivement par Brice Coudert et Antoine Hernandez, tous deux connus comme étant parmi les curateurs français les plus influents de ces 10 dernières années dans le domaine des musiques électroniques.
Fondateur et directeur artistique de l’institution Concrete, considérée comme “le club qui a réinventé la nuit parisienne” (Le Monde), “The club that gave Paris is groove back” (Resident Advisor) ou encore qui “a bouleversé la vision de la fête à Paris” (Libération) de 2011 à 2019, Brice Coudert est également derrière les programmations des Weather Festivals, et plus récemment des événements Mutant., Antiverse et du projet Underscope.
Antoine Hernandez, quant à lui, est le co-programmateur du festival stéphanois Positive Education décrit comme “l’un des meilleurs festivals de musique électronique de France.” par Tsugi, “ultra défricheur et futuriste” (Les Inrocks) et “toujours plus audacieux, fédérateur et révélateur de grands génies.” (Nova).
Chaque line up d’Essaim sera méticuleusement conçu, fruit de la complémentarité des deux programmateurs et de leur même vision musicale, alliant exigence, modernité et audace.

Bienvenue à Essaim
Les membres de l’équipe se sont interrogé·e·s sur l’essence d’un club idéal au-delà de sa programmation. Leur ambition : mettre le public au centre de leurs npréoccupations, et créer un lieu où chaque visite devient une expérience chaleureuse, répondant aux attentes réelles de celles et ceux souvent déçu·e·s par l’attention insuffisante portée au bien-être et au confort des visiteurs dans les clubs français.

De la volonté d’offrir un accueil souriant et bienveillant à chaque personne qui franchira la porte, à un bar proposant des tarifs bien plus accessibles que dans la plupart des autres clubs parisiens, en passant par une jauge maîtrisée garantissant un espace où l’on ne se sentira jamais à l’étroit, chaque détail a été conçu pour faire d’Essaim un véritable lieu de partage et de liberté. Un espace où la fête se vit pleinement, dans le respect de chacun·e, sans compromis sur le confort, la sécurité ou le bien-être collectif.

Public & artistes: une immersion partagée
En abaissant la cabine du DJ au niveau du sol pour rapprocher les artistes du public, Concrete avait, il y a plus de 10 ans, introduit à Paris une nouvelle façon de concevoir l’espace scénique. Ce concept, depuis adopté par de nombreux clubs parisiens, permettait de rendre la fête plus ouverte et égalitaire. L’artiste se retrouvait face aux danseur·se·s, et non plus au-dessus d’elles·eux, tandis que les espaces réservés aux professionnel·les, ami·e·s ou “VIP” derrière l’artiste disparaissaient, plaçant tout le monde sur un même pied d’égalité dans la fête.

À Essaim, cette idée sera le point de départ de la conception d’un dancefloor pensé comme un cocon, designé pour favoriser le bien-être et l’expérience des danseur·ses. Élaboré avec l’architecte Dorothée Hachiken, ce projet a pour leitmotiv d’offrir un terrain idéal à l’artiste et au public pour vivre la musique et le moment ensemble, et ce, sur une longue durée.

Pièges à son et autre travail des surfaces avec des matériaux favorisant l’acoustique de la salle et offrant un son mat, pur et sans résonance – système son L-Acoustics dernière génération ayant déjà fait ses preuves à l’époque du Carbone club mais cette fois ci largement complété pour une diffusion plus intense et uniforme, sans angles morts, et permettant de produire tout type de performances lives – Essaim offrira une qualité sonore à la hauteur des artistes qui y seront programmé·e·s et des oreilles les plus exigeantes.

Loin de la surenchère visuelle, du grand spectacle, des éclairages agressifs et des murs d’écrans LED, l’atmosphère visuelle et le système d’éclairage, seront conçus pour favoriser une ambiance futuriste, mystique et intimiste, rendant ainsi les longues sessions agréables et non oppressantes.

C’est en immersion dans une atmosphère hors du temps et face à un public patient, curieux et connaisseur, que les artistes bénéficieront d’une opportunité de plus en plus rare aujourd’hui : des créneaux longs, leur offrant le temps de s’exprimer pleinement et d’explorer au-delà de leur tracklist du moment. Impliquant de fait, un nombre d’artistes réduit sur le line up, et donc davantage d’attention portée à chacun·e d’elle·eux.

The new human-scale festive rallying point in Paris, conceived by the masterminds behind Concrete, and programmed by its former artistic director Brice Coudert in tandem with Antoine Hernandez (co-programmer of Positive Education festival).

After reshaping the trajectory of electronic music in France in the 2010s by creating the Concrete institution and inspiring a generation of clubbers, artists, and promoters for nearly a decade, its technical and production director Jonathan Malaisé and its founder and artistic director Brice Coudert are teaming up with David Bossan and Tommy Gin to give birth to Essaim: a new space dedicated to modern music and designed to become the new hub for a scene with cutting-edge musical tastes and a purist, open minded audience.

Located in the heart of Paris (within the former Club Carbone and Bisou Club), between Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est but sheltered from main thoroughfares and transient crowds, the determined and passionate team behind this new project is carefully defining and constructing a new space. With a human-scale capacity (400 people), it will allow them to elevate the quality of the experience to a level rarely seen in Paris.

An embodied musical program
To maintain a musical DNA defined by a bold and uncompromising artistic direction, Essaim’s programming will be curated exclusively by Brice Coudert and Antoine Hernandez, both of whom are known as some of the most influential curators in French electronic music over the past 10 years.
Brice Coudert, founder and artistic director of the Concrete institution—hailed as “the club that reinvented Parisian nightlife” (Le Monde), “gives Paris his groove back” (Resident Advisor) and which “shook up the vision of partying in Paris” (Libération) from 2011 to 2019—is also behind the programming of Weather Festivals and more recently, Mutant., Antiverse, and Underscope.
Antoine Hernandez is the co-programmer of Positive Education festival in Saint-Étienne, described as “one of the best electronic music festivals in France” by Tsugi, “ultra-pioneering and futuristic” (Les Inrocks), and “ever more daring, unifying, and revealing of great talent” (Nova).
Each of Essaim’s lineups will be meticulously crafted, a product of the complementary skills of the two programmers and their shared musical vision, blending rigor, modernity, and audacity.

Welcome to Essaim
The team members reflected on what defines an ideal club beyond its programming. Their ambition: to place the audience at the center of their concerns, creating a space where every visit becomes a warm experience, meeting the real needs of those often disappointed by the lack of attention to visitor well-being and comfort in French clubs.

From offering a friendly and welcoming reception to every person who walks through the door, to providing a bar with much more accessible prices than most other Parisian clubs, to maintaining a controlled capacity that ensures no one feels cramped, every detail has been designed to make Essaim a true place of sharing and freedom. A space where parties are fully enjoyed, with respect for everyone, without compromising on comfort, safety, or collective well-being.

Crowd & Artists: a shared experience
Over 10 years ago, Concrete lowered the DJ booth to floor level to bring artists closer to the audience, introducing a new way of designing the stage space in Paris. This concept, now adopted by many Parisian clubs, made the party more open and egalitarian. The artist faced the dancers, no longer above them, while the spaces reserved for professionals, friends, or “VIPs” behind the artist disappeared, putting everyone on equal footing during the party.

At Essaim, this idea will be the foundation for designing a dancefloor conceived as a cocoon, designed to enhance the well-being and experience of the dancers. Developed with architect Dorothée Hachiken, the project’s guiding principle is to offer an ideal setting for both artists and the audience to experience the music and the moment together, over extended periods.

With sound traps and surface work using materials that enhance the room’s acoustics and provide a matte, pure, resonance-free sound, Essaim will feature a state-of-the-art L-Acoustics sound system—already proven at the Carbone club—now enhanced for more intense, uniform coverage with no dead spots, allowing for all types of live performances. Essaim will offer sound quality worthy of the artists it will host and the most discerning ears.

Far from excessive visuals, grand spectacles, aggressive lighting, and LED screen walls, the visual atmosphere and lighting system will be designed to create a futuristic, mystical, and intimate ambiance, making long sessions enjoyable and non-oppressive. In an immersive, timeless atmosphere and before a patient, curious, and knowledgeable audience, artists will benefit from a rare opportunity today: long sets that give them time to fully express themselves and explore beyond their current tracklist. This will naturally involve fewer artists on the lineup, allowing for greater focus on each one.
